Just over one year after the fall, Sherlock Holmes’ return has gone public and Richard Brook has been proven to be a fraud.
Kitty Riley is thirty years old and currently living in a small flat in Hackney, London, following her resignation from The Sun. She works as a proofreader and occasional interviewer for her local paper, The Hackney Gazette, writing freelance investigative pieces in her spare time.
Langdale Pike and Kitty were close friends before the fall. She pushed Langdale to introduce her to Sherlock, but he always refused to arrange an interview. Kitty’s involvement in his downfall effectively ruined their friendship - they didn’t speak to each other for over a year - and it wasn’t until Richard Brook was irrefutably debunked that she approached Langdale again to try and make things right.
She still harbours a lot of guilt and remorse over what she did, especially as there just isn’t an easy way to redeem herself and work her way back up, and spends a lot of time avoiding the rather sickening thought of Jim Moriarty. She’s not spoken in detail to anyone about the role she played during the ‘trial of the century’.
